The Jones Funeral Home was founded by Edgar W. Jones in 1915. He was a funeral director for 31 years. Mr. Jones graduated from the Eckels College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia in 1912. Edgar married the former Margaret Lynam and they had four children together. He died in December of 1946. He was succeeded by his son Robert M. Jones Sr. 

Robert M. Jones Sr. graduated from the Cincinnati College of Embalming with highest honors in June of 1941. He entered the Army shortly after Pearl Harbor, and was released from military service in 1946 with rank of captain. Robert married Martha Peters and was a father of eight children. He took over control of Jones Funeral Home five months after his fathers death.  Robert died in July of 1965 with 19 years of service. Robert M. Jones Jr. is the current licensed funeral director. 

Since its founding, the Jones Funeral Home has served the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese by conducting funerals of five Catholic Bishops. The first occurred in 1920 when Bishop Garvey died. Then in 1936 thousands of visitors came to Jones Funeral Home when Bishop McCort died, the third in 1957 when Bishop Guilfoyle died, then in 1960 when Bishop Carroll died he was the fourth Roman Catholic Bishop of Altoona. Lastly Bishop Hogan who died in June of 2005 who was the sixth Roman Catholic Bishop of Altoona-Johnstown.
