Bertrand D. Summerville

Bertrand D. Summerville, age 62, of Altoona, transitioned from this life on Monday morning 11/14/2022 at UPMC Altoona.  He was born in Flint, Michigan, 09/27/1960, the fifth child of the late Raymond D. and Hester L. ( Marshall) Summerville.  As a child he attended the Flint Community Schools in Flint Michigan, then later moved to Harrisburg, PA where he graduated from the Harrisburg High School, class of 1978.   Bert has been a self taught musician since childhood.  He has played organ and piano for various churches in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arkansas and Maryland.  He loved music and enjoyed playing the organ.  Beside his love for music, Bert loved to laugh and make others laugh.  He enjoyed interacting with people and was a stranger to no one.  Surviving are sisters:  Lavonda (Kevin) Myers, C. Rene and Rhonda Summerville, brothers:  Gerald (Keiko), Charles (Karen), Duane (Phyllis), Gregory (Bridget) and Donald (Stevie) Summerville.  He was preceded in death by his parents, nieces: June and Deanna, and a sister in law, Barbara.  Family and friends will be received Monday, November 21st from 11:00- Noon, at Mother of Gethsemane Church, 511  11th Street, Altoona, PA.with a funeral service following.  A Celebration of life service will follow at Noon, with Bishop George Bailey officiating.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the funeral parlor.
