D. Richard Fornwalt

D. Richard "Rick" Fornwalt, 67 of Altoona died Tuesday morning August 25, 2015 at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care.

He was born January 16, 1948 in Altoona a son of the late Donald M. and Mary Elizabeth (McSorley) Fornwalt. He married Rita Marie Brunnhuer on June 18, 1983

Surviving are his wife Rita; A SISTER Mary Pat Zeak of Altoona; a niece Christine Zeak – Filer and her daughter Gabrielle Filer and her sons Ryan and Kyle Eckenrode all of Altoona; a nephew David Zeak of Hanford, CA and a nephew Andrew Zeak and his wife Amanda Lynn and their daughter Kiera all of Altoona.

Rick was a 1967 graduate of Altoona High School.

Mr. Fornwalt was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona.

He retired in July of 2008 as a custodian at Jaffa Shrine Center following eleven year’s service; previously he had been employed as a funeral assistant at Jones Funeral Home, Altoona, a custodian at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, a laborer at Proctor – Silex with 17 years’ service and a carpet installer.

Rick was a third and fourth degree Knight of Columbus, Bishop Garvey Assembly; a member of Hiram Lodge #616, F.& A.M.: a Noble of Jaffa Shrine where he served with the Jaffa Color Guard Unit; he loved working at the annual Jaffa Shrine Circus especially for the children’s enjoyment. He was a past president of the Swiss Rifle Club, Altoona. He enjoyed watching TV especially Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football. He was known to his friends by “We are, Penn State”.

Friends will be received from 4 – 8 P.M. Thursday August 27, 2015 at Jones Funeral Home, 1222 Thirteenth Avenue, Altoona where a vigil service for the deceased will be held.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Friday August 28, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona with Monsignor Timothy P. Stein officiating. Committal Rites will be made at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Altoona.
