Mr. George L. Shevenock, age 87, Altoona, died at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 13, 2018 at UPMC – Altoona unexpectedly.
Mr. Shevenock was born in Gallitzin, Pa on January 27, 1931, son of the late George and Anna M. Kurash. He married Anna Mae Smith July 6, 1957 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament .
George retired in 1993 as a Field Consultant for the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association, Harrisburg, Pa with 23 years of service. He previously worked at Altoona Veeder – Root for 13 years.
He was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church were he served in many capacities.
Mr. Shevenock was a 1949 graduate of Gallitzin High School. George was a life time member of the VFW Post 3, Knights of Columbus Council 551, Altoona Model Train Museum Association and the recipient of the Prince Gallitzin Cross. He enjoyed moderailroading.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sgt. In the Korean War. He was a recipient of National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 4 children Veda (James Sr.) Cupples and Judith (Robert) Klien, both of Altoona, Pa; David (Debra) Shevenock, of Marysville, Pa; and George L. (Kathy) Shevenock ll, of Warren, MI; 4 siblings Francis Shevenock of Gallitzin, Pa. Micheal Shevenock, of Gallitzin, Pa; Joesph Shevenock, of South Carolina; and Rosella Rocus, of Gallitzin, Pa. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two borthers Edward and Robert Shevenock and a sister Anna Marie Steele.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, Altoona, Pa at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 with Fr. D. Timothy Grimme celebrant.
Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery Altoona, Pa.
Friends will be received Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 5-8 Pm at Jones Funeral Home where a Vigil For the Deceased will be held at 7:00 PM.
