John Sgro

John Sgro

John R. Sgro, 69, passed away peacefully at his Altoona home on Sunday morning. He remained positive throughout his illness, always being hopeful and never complaining. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and friend.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Don and Gladys (Black) Sgro. Surviving are his wife, Lois (Valentine) Sgro, two sons, Michael J. Sgro of Altoona and Andrew D. Sgro of Duncansville, a brother, Don M. Sgro of Altoona, an aunt, Pauline (Sgro) Fama of Altoona, mother- in - law Mary Valentine of Patton, sister - in - law Nancy (Valentine) Palko of Imler, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1964 and attended two years of collage. He owned the Tenth Street Cafe until 2002. He was a van driver for Maxwell Transit Systems untill 2007. He drove for Blair Senior Services until he retired in 2012.

He enjoyed hiking and camping with his family, taking long walks with his beloved dog Wilbur, listening to music and podcasts on the back porch, watching movies, Weather World and news shows, rooting for Penn State Nittany Lions, the Steelers and the Pirates, and especially going on family vacations.

He loved his life and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A memorial service will be held at Jones Funeral Home from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. on Saturday 10, 2015
