John Wiberg

Mr. John Nason. Wiberg, 85, of Altoona, PA, died at 12:01 PM, Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at UPMC - Altoona.

Mr. Wiberg was born in Tyrone, PA on April 25, 1930, son of the late Robert and Ellen (Olson) Wiberg.

He retired in 1985 as a school teacher at Hollidaysburg Area School District with 15 years of service. He previuosly taught at Turtle Creek and Tyrone School Districts. John was head basketball coach at Turtle Creek from 1954 - 1960. Tyrone from 1960 - 1967, Altoona Campus from 1968 - 1969 and Hollidaysburg from 1969 - 1974 and was assistant Coach from 1975 - 1984.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church Morrisdale, PA.

John was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School, attended lowa University on a baskeball scholarship, then was drafted into the U.S. Army. He graduated from Clarion University were he receivd his teaching certificate, attended University of Texas, El Paso, Concordia Theological Seminary in St.Louis, MO. and David Litscomb University, Nashville, TN. He enjoyed sports, especailly basketball.

He served in the U.S. Army as a Pfc in the Korean War and received the National Defense Service Medal.

He is survived by a sister Betty Ann Turner, of Tonawanda, NY; and a sister - in - law Pauline Wiberg, of Clarion, Pa, John is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 5 siblings Robert, James and William Wiberg and Margaret Maxwell and H. Louise Beahm.

A Funeral Service will be held at Jones Funeral Home, Altoona, Pa at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 17, 2015 with Pastor Kenneth Zitsch Officiating.

Interment will be Grandview Cemetery, Tyrone, Pa.

Friends will be received Friday, October 16, 2015 from 4 - 8 PM Jones Funeral Home.
