Laverne Umholtz

Mrs. LaVerne Catherine Umholtz, 89, of Altoona, Pa. went home to be with her Lord at 11;25 PM, Monday, April 20, 2015 at UPMC - Altoona, after an extended illness.

Mrs. Umholtz was born in Ebensburg, Pa. on November 23, 1925, daughter of the late Harvey and Caroline (Coons) Byrne. She married Cecil Franklin Umholtz May 6, 1947 in Cumberland, Md. He died March 11, 2012.

She retired in 2001 as a self - employed farmer for with 50 years service. Previuosly she worked at Altoona Silk Mill with 6 years service. Patton Shirt Factory with 27 years service and Coalport Dress Factory for 7 years.

She attended Riggles Gap Bible Church Altoona, Pa.

LaVerne was a 1945 graduate of Ebensburg High School. She enjoyed her grandcgildren and great grandchildren, sewing, farming and her dog Fuji.

She is survived by a daughter Deborah (husband Ken0 Bender, of Carroltown, Pa. and a son Gerald J. (wife Bonnie) Umholtz, of Altoona, Pa. 2 sisters Mary Farabaugh, of Loretto, Pa. and Alma Farabaugh, of Erie, Pa. a special nieceand caregiver Lois Dively. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. LaVerne is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 children. Terri Jean Umholtz and Cecil F. Umholtz Jr. and 5 siblings Arthur Byrne, Merrill Byrne, Paul Byrne, Lucille Ronan and Betty Scanion.

A Funeral Serivice will be held at 7:00 PM T hursday, April 23, 2015 at Jones Funeral Home, Altoona, Pa. with Pastor William Ice officiating.

Committal will be held Friday morning at Grendview Cemetery Altoona, Pa.

Friends will be received Thursday, April 23, 2015 4-7 PM at Jones Funeral Home.
