Linda M. (Matlack) Kuhn, 84, a resident of the Lutheran Home in Hollidaysburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late J. Harold and Marie C. (Knepper) Matlack. On November 16, 1957, she married her best friend since 8th grade, Francis E. Kuhn, and they shared 57 years of marriage before his passing on December 17, 2014. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia (Britt) Parks of Montrose, CO, her son James (Susan) of Altoona, her grandchildren, Kelsey (Mark), Kevin, Christopher, Sterling (Hailey), and her great grandson Isaac. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was predeceased by her sister Cynthia Ann and her brother James Knepper Matlack.
Linda was a 1955 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and received several scholarships. She briefly attended Marywood College, studying Mathematics. She returned to Altoona and graduated from the Altoona School of Commerce in 1956. In 1975, at Penn State Altoona, Linda earned the degree of Associate in Letters, Arts and Sciences with Highest Distinction and was selected as the Student Marshall for the College of Liberal Arts.
She spent most of her career employed with the Bell Telephone Company where she started as a clerk in 1956 and was promoted to Assistant Chief Operator in 1976. From 1989 to 1997 she worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Chief Clerk and then as an Auditor in the State Treasurer’s Office.
Linda was a devout Catholic all of her life and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish where she was a member of the Christian Mothers and previously a church organist. She loved reading, Broadway plays and beach vacations with her family. She will be greatly missed.
Due to Covid-19 a public visitation will not be held. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 29, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Altoona.
Contributions in Linda’s memory may be given to Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries or Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
