Martha Jones

Mrs. Martha Virginia Jones, age 95, of Garvey Manor Nursing Home, formerly of 1222 – 13th Ave. Altoona, Pa died Wednesday, August 19,2015 at the Home after an extened illness. ^.

She was born in Altoona, Pa. on March 20, 1920, daughter of the late John F. and Mary Martha (Calvin) Peters. She married Robert M. Jones Sr. February 11, 1942 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. He died July 28, 1965.

She was a registered nurse and homemaker.

She was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament Altoona, Pa.

Virginia was a 1938 graduate of Altoona High School and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She was a past member and founder/president of Cathedral Christion Mothers and a member of Catholic Daughters of America and volunteer with Birthright. Virginia was devoted to her husband and family and always put her children frist. She was an incredible mother and friend. She was adventurous and loved to travel, especially to be beaches of Ocean City, MD and Puerto Rico. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by 8 children Robert M. (wife Jean) Jones Jr. of Altoona; Patrick T. (wife Nancy) Jones, of Altoona; Carol Makdad, of Altoona; Edger W.(wife Kaye) Jones of Palm City, FL, Anita M. (husband Robert) Dortenzo of Chambersburg, Pa, Mary E. O'Meara, of Gainesville, FL; Virginia M. (husband Pat) Dumm, of Altoona; and Melinda M. (husband Dr. Regino) Flores, of Altoona; 31 grandchildren and 47 great- grandchildren. A sister – in – law Ruth Peters of Hollidaysburg, Pa and a nephew David E.(Sandy) Jones of Millboro, DE. Attorney John C. Peters Jr. of Altoona, Pa. Karen L. (Mark) Hecht of Warren, Pa. and Linda K. (Marc) of Burke, VA. Virginia is also survived by several grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter Mary Ann Jones, a grandson Douglas Egan, 2 great – grandaughter Sara Jane Kimmel and Cicely Grace Dortenzo, a sister Louise Jones and a bother Jones C ."Jack" Peters.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, Pa.

Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery Altoona, Pa.

Friends will be received Friday 4 - 8 PM Frida, August 21 ,2015 at Jones Funeral Home where a Vigil For the Deceased will be held during the visitation.
