Robert Aiken

Robert V. “Bob” “Raphael” Aiken, 85 of Altoona died Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

He was born June 8, 1931 in Altoona a son of the late Raphael Paul and Marie (Sell) Aiken. He married Phyllis I. Harpster on February 14, 1953 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. She preceded him in death in February 2010.

Surviving are his three children, Robert P. Aiken (Belinda) of Altoona, William E. Aiken (June) of Altoona, Joseph Vincent Aiken (Erin) of Windsor, VA; four grandchildren, Jessica O’Neill (Shawn), William, Izabelle, and Cassidy Aiken; one great granddaughter, Lena; three siblings, Richard Aiken, James Aiken, Eleanor Gill.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, his infant twin, Terry, Ronald, Paul; a sister, Suzanne; and a granddaughter, Tina.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where he was an usher.

Bob was a 1949 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School.

He served in the National Guard.

Bob retired in 1994 as a Boiler Operator from the Altoona Hospital after 26 years of service.

He was a member of William Penn Association and Juniata VFW Home Association.

He enjoyed carpentry, woodworking and watching westerns.

Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday February 5, 2017 at Jones Funeral Home, 1222 13th Avenue, Altoona where a vigil service for the deceased will be held.  A funeral service will be held on February 6, 2017 at Holy Rosary Church, 900 N 4th St, Altoona, PA 16601 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Carl E. Vacek T.O.R. officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park Cemetery.
