Robert "Bobby" E. Balmforth

Robert E. “Bobby” Balmforth, 41, of Fredrick, Md., formerly of Altoona, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2023, after a brief illness. He was born October 13, 1981, in Jacksonville, N.C., the son of David and Sally (Ruffner) Balmforth. Surviving are his parents; life-partner, Doug Martin of Fredrick, Md.; siblings: Michael Balmforth (Allison and Noah) of Altoona; Sarah Adams (Alexander) of Altoona; and Stephen Balmforth (Meg); Eric Balmforth; and Jennifer Balmforth, all in Virginia; an aunt, Mary Gray (Ron) of North Port, Fla.; and cousin, Stephanie McMullen (Greg) of Altoona; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Robert loved life. He lit up every room he walked in. He worked in the restaurant industry and loved every minute of it. Robert was an avid artist and loved to share his creativity with the world. His love for music and cinema came from his grandparents and he continued to spread it throughout his life. Like his family, he loved animals, especially his dog, Leo Lafayette. No matter what, Robert always called on holidays and called everyone on their birthday. He was an amazing brother, partner, son, and friend. He loved his friends, partner, and family very much. He is preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Robert and Betty Ruffner; paternal grandparents, Stanford and Barbara Balmforth; a sister, Kathleen Balmforth; a brother, Everette Balmforth; uncles, Matthew, Phil, Greg and Mark Balmforth; and numerous cousins. Robert was a person who thought of others. His wishes were honored to have his body donated to science. Friends will be received from 10:30 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Jones Funeral Home, Fr. Dennis Kurzweil, officiant. Interment will be held at Carson Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s name can be made to Second Chance Strays Cat Rescue & Lounge, 1101 13th Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
