Robert H. “Bob” Fowler, age 91 of Martinsburg/Bellwood, died Sunday morning 07/16/2023 after a courageous battle with cancer, at Homewood at Martinsburg. He was born in Bellwood 10/27/931, son of Harold and Onda (Berholder) Fowler. On 07/08/1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Janice Weiser in Bellwood. Bob is survived by his loving wife; his three children: Cathy Hammer (James) of Altoona, Robert Fowler (Margaret) of Lock Haven and James Fowler (Jane) of Houston, Texas; his six grandchildren: Nick Hammer, Scott Hammer (Jaime), Derek Fowler (Diana), Daren Fowler, Andrea Fowler(Tyler Mentzer) and Courtney Fowler (Michael Manfred); two great grandchildren: Zella and Zachary Fowler; four siblings: Bernice Wise, Eldrid Miller, Raymond Fowler and Donald Fowler; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by three siblings: Dorothy Dunn Stephens, Harold and John Fowler. He graduated from Bellwood Antis High School in 1951, where he played both football and track. He went on to graduate from Shippensburg College in 1955 where he also played football. He was both a teacher and coach at Bellwood Antis High School until his retirement in 1984. He loved coaching, track, cross country and football. Bob organized the Bellwood Track Invitational for local athletes to help prepare them for district and state competitions. He also started the ski club for Bellwood Antis High School. Bob was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard and retired as a Sergeant 1st Class with 37; years of service. During his retirement years, Bob enjoyed gardening and was known for his delicious homemade sauerkraut. He also enjoyed participating in the Senior Olympics and won many medals in swimming. Family was most important to him, especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Per Bob’s request, there will a private memorial service that will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Vincent J. Good Funeral Parlor, 328 Fifth Avenue, Altoona. The family would like to thank the staff of Homewood and Gentiva for their compassionate and wonderful care.
