Shirley Keirn

Shirley Jean Keirn, 85, of Altoona, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, January 30, 2023 her home, after an extended illness.

She was born in Altoona, April 18, 1937, daughter of the late Claire and Ruth (Benton) Trexler. She married Joseph E. Keirn July 20, 1956 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Altoona with Father Francis Kelly officiating.

She retired in 1998 as a Corporate Secretary and part owner of Keystone Auto Radiator, Inc. Altoona with 36 years of service.

Shirley was a member of the Catholic Church for the past 73 years and a member Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament Altoona where she served as a class assistant and was a member of the Christian Mothers. She was also a member of Catholic War Veterans and life member of Heidelberg Country Club. She also was a playground instructor and girl scouts leader at Curtin School.

She was a 1956 graduate of Scotland School for Veterans Children, Chambersburg, Pa.

Shirley’s greatest joy was sitting on her porch deck observing her hummingbirds and spoiling her three grandchildren, Tiffini Keirn, Krystyn Trister and Cory Keirn whom she dearly loved and were her life and reason for living. She was an amazing homemaker.

She enjoyed gaming, shopping, taking trips with her military husband and best friends Blaine and Shirley Fahr. She visited Belgium, Germany, England and France.

Shirley is survived by her husband and 5 siblings Donaid L. Trexler, of Carlisle, Pa. Robert F. Trexler, of Mt. Joy, Pa. Diane L. Woomer of Lancaster, Pa. Jack  A. Trexler of Altoona, Pa. and Janel M. Beasom of Harrisburg, Pa. Shirley is also survived by 3 grand children Tiffany Keirn, Cory Keirn and Krystyn Trister. She was preceded in death by her 2 children Joseph A. and Lori A. Keirn and 2 brothers Raymond and Claire Trexler.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, Pa at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 13,2023 with Msgr. Stanley B. Carson officiating.

Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery Altoona, Pa.

At the family’s request there will be no visitation.

Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home, Altoona.
