Stanley Shaffer

Stanley R. Shaffer, 83, of Duncansville, died Sunday at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness. He was born in Williamsburg, son of the late Ralph L. and Frances E. (Brown) Shaffer.

He was previously married to Norma Helsel on Sept. 2, 1959, and then to Linda Steak on Nov. 22, 1985.

Stan retired in 1998 as a production worker at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co., Tyrone, with 29 years’ and 7 months’ service.

He was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona.

Stan was a 1955 graduate of Williamsburg High School. He was a member of the Bavarian Aid Society and Cesare Battisti Club. He enjoyed bicycling at Rails to Trails, walking and hanging out with friends at a donut shop in Duncansville.

He served in the National Guard.

Stan is survived by four children: Jamie L. (Jay) McDuffie of Vestavia, Ala., Michael A. (Terry) Shaffer of La Grange, Ga., Kevin D. (Michelle) Shaffer of McKinney, Texas, and Susan K. (Paul) Furrer of Altoona; and a brother, Leon Shaffer, of Tacoma, Wash. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Shannon (Ryan) Shaffer-Shannon, Dillon Shaffer, Sarina (Simms) Newell, Siera Shaffer, Alaina Bonnet and Matthew Furrer; and two great-grandchildren, Cameron Shannon and Kailah Shannon.

Stan was preceded in death by an infant sister, Kay Frances Shaffer; and a sister-in-law, Sai Shaffer.

Friends will be received from 4 until the 6 p.m. funeral service outside of Mass on today, March 31, 2021, at Jones Funeral Home, Altoona, with Monsignor Stanley B. Carson officiating.

Committal will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Williamsburg.
