Eugene P. Bettwy, 88, of Hollidaysburg, formerly of Altoona, died at 7:29 pm, Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at his residence, after a brief illness.
Mr. Bettwy was born in Altoona, February 10, 1932, son of the late Louis P. and Eva (Eder) Bettwy. He married Viola K. Delozier August 14, 1971 to the Cathedral of the Blessed Sarament. He was previously to Charlotte M. O'Friel who preceded him in death July 28, 1978.
Gene retired in 1991 as an Electrical Engineer at Penelec Altoona with 37 years of service.
He was a member of St. Rose Of Lima Church Altoona, Pa.
Gene attended St. Mary's Grade School, graduated from Altoona High School in 1950 and Penn State University in 1954 with Bachrlor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a founding member of St. Rose Of Lima's new church building, member of the Choir for many years, was frist chairman of St. Rose Parish Council, Eucharistic Minister, Fourt DegreeKnights of Columbus, Altoona Kiwanis Club for 20 plus years and voluteered for "Meals On Wheels". His greatest joy was sharing life with his family and showing off his model trains to his grand and great grandchildren, whom he loved and cherished.
Gene served in the U.S. Air Force as a Frist Lieutenant during the Kprean War. While at Penn State, he was a member of ROTC and upon grauation he was commissioned as a Frist lietenant in the U.S. Air Forc.
He is survived by his wife and 7 children Deborah M. (Matthaw) Chapman, of Savannah, GA; Philip G. (Alice) Bettwy, of Springfield, VA; Michele M. (Tom) Debernardis, of Altoona, Pa; Charlotte M. (Jim) Sommer, of Altoona, Pa; Edward G. (Rhonda) Bettwy, of Hollidaysburg, Pa; Jeffery L. (Christina) Bettwy, of Roaring Spring, Pa; Christopher M. (Christine) Bettwy, of Martinsburg, Pa. Gene is also survived by 22 grand children and 18 great grand children and one expected in December. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Leonard Bettwy.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at St. Rose Of Lima Church, Altoona, Pa with Fr. Brian R. Saylor and Fr. Clement Gardner Co-Celebrants.
Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery Altoona, Pa.
Friends will be received Monday, August 17, 2020 from 4-8 PM at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic where a Vigil For the Deceased will be celebrated during the vistation.
