Joseph Raymond Ulsh, 60, of Duncansville, died Friday at UPMC Altoona following complications from a heart attack.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late William J. “Bill” and Michelena “Miki” (Loudenslager) Ulsh-Jolin, who survives him in Brooksville, Fla. He married Mary L. Resig on Sept. 12, 1992, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg.

Joe was a heavy equipment operator at Pat Burns Excavating, Altoona, with three years of service. He was previously employed by Gordon DeLozier Construction with over 15 years of service. He was a heavy equipment operator for over 40 years.

He was of the Catholic faith.

Joe attended Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School. He enjoyed NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr., Steelers, Pirates and go-kart racing with his wife and son for 14 years as mechanic and pit crew. He loved watching his son and helping his go-kart friends. He was a strong, hardworking man and devoted husband and father. He loved spending time with his family and friends enjoying pool days, holidays and race parties. He could fix anything. He was known as McGyver. Joe touched so many lives throughout his amazing life.

He is survived by his wife; two sons: Jeremie Wayne Ulsh of Hudson, Fla., and Joseph Donald (Michelle) Ulsh of Duncansville; stepgranddaughter, Stella; his mother of Brooksville, Fla.; and three siblings: Christine “Chris” Hyatt, Diane (Kirk) Haynes and Thomas (Lisa) Ulsh, all of Brooksville, Fla.

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altoona. Father Brian Saylor will be officiating. Masks and social distancing are required.

Interment will be at Carson Valley Cemetery, Duncansville.

There will be no public visitation due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of his two dogs: Gibbs and Mocha, to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
