Loretta Batkiewicz

Loretta P. (Harte) Batkiewicz, 85, Altoona, died Saturday evening, at Hillview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Altoona, after an extended illness.

She was born in Castle Rea, Ireland, daughter of the late John and Loretta (Cassarly) Harte. She married John F. Batkiewicz on May 31, 1969, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2011.

Loretta was a 1953 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School. She retired in 1976 as a secretary at Penelec, Altoona, with 26 years of service. She later worked at J.C. Penney Co. as a luggage salesperson for 10 years and was an assistant registrar with Gerry Kester.

Loretta was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona.

Loretta was a 1953 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School. She enjoyed bingo, golf, bowling and playing cards.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia M., of Nanty-Glo; and four siblings: Finola H. (Dene) Lane of Castle Rea, Ireland, Patrick S. Harte and John Cyril Harte, both of Coventry, England, and Eugene J. Harte of Wexford, Ireland.Loretta was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Joseph Dolan; and a special aunt and uncle, Agnes and Patrick Gibbons.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Jones Funeral Home, Altoona, where a Vigil for the Deceased will be held during the visitation.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, with Monsignor Robert C. Mazur officiating.

Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
