Margaret D. “Peg” McCreary, 76, of Altoona, died Friday at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Ralph G. Sr. and Sarah A. (Dodson) White.
She married Donald H. “Donnie” McCreary on Feb. 10, 1968, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2007.
Peg retired June 7, 2017, as a school crossing guard from Altoona Police Department with 11 years of service.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Altoona.
Peg was a high school graduate. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, care giving, crafts and taking care of her animals.
She is survived by two children, Joseph Michael (Lelia Hall) McCreary and Dawn Marie (Tim) Hornberger, both of Altoona; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Ann Shaneyfelt; and nine siblings: Ralph Guy White Jr., Maxine Forester, James White, Patricia George, Elizabeth Hiles, Shirley White, Carol Mekins, Donald White and Lewis White.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, with Monsignor Stanley B. Carson as Celebrant.
Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Altoona.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, at Jones Funeral Home, Altoona where a Vigil for the Deceased will be held during the visitation.
