Robert Koehle

Robert F. (Bob) Koehle, 67, Altoona, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late John E. and Sarah Berenice (Mussleman) Koehle Sr. On June 22, 1974, he married Barbara Ann Nycum at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Juniata.

Surviving are his wife; three sons: Robert Christopher (Shawna) Koehle of Altoona, Thomas John (Heather) Koehle of Altoona and Ryan Andrew (Lacey) Koehle of Bellefonte. He had five grandchildren of whom he was very proud: Gavin Christopher, Brayden James, Benton Carter, Riley Taylor and Madelynn Maureen. Also surviving are two sisters: Carol (Daniel) Rogers of Montoursville and Anita (Ed) Kissell of Altoona; and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John “Jack” Koehle Jr.; and his in-laws, Thomas W. and Gertrude Nycum.

He was a 1971 graduate of Altoona Area High School and was employed as a sheet metal worker and welder at Penn Central Railroad, Conrail and Norfolk Southern from 1974 until his retirement in 2006. He served as the facility employee safety chairman for several years and made many great friends during his employment. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

A golf enthusiast, Robert enjoyed memberships at several area clubs including Sinking Valley Country Club, Iron Masters Country Club, Huntingdon Country Club and the former McMahons Golf Club. He shared his passion and enthusiasm with his sons and the acquaintances he made along the way. He was also a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society.

His other passions included watching his oldest grandsons play Little League baseball, Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football, model railroading with his grandchildren and Western movies and television shows.

Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home. There will be no service due to current COVID-19 restrictions. Committal will be made in Calvary Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
