Ronald Sheehan

Ronald Joseph “Ron” Sheehan, 92, of Altoona, died Wednesday at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Edgar Vernon and Bernadine O. (Adams) Sheehan.

He first married Jacqueline A. Griffith who preceded him in death Aug. 13, 1988. He then married Jean Marie (Murphy) Bettwy on April 21, 1990, at St Leo’s Catholic Church, Altoona.

Ron retired in Sept. 1987 as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Altoona with 30 years of service. He previously worked for the Firestone Store in Altoona.

He was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament Altoona.

Ron was 1946 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and attended Penn State Altoona from 1952-53. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Council 551 and St. Stanislaus Kostka Brotherhood. He enjoyed sports ­– football and baseball, especially Notre Dame.

He served in the U.S. Marines in the Korean War.

Ron is survived by his wife; six children: Kathleen (Larry) Butterini of Wexford, Pa., Theodore (Kathy) Sheehan of Wallkill, N.Y., Kristina Andrew of Duncansville, Cynthia (Louis) Cessna of Altoona, Betsy (John) Penrose of Alfred, N.Y., and Anna Marucci of Cranberry Township; six stepchildren: Louise (William) Markland of Rehoboth Beach, Del., John (Becky) Bettwy, Robert Bettwy, James (Elizabeth) Bettwy, Ruthanne (Kenneth) Louder and Joseph (Sandy) Bettwy, all of Altoona; and a sister, Delores Reismeier of Easton, Pa. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be no public visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass to be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, with Monsignor Stanley B. Carson Celebrant.

Committal Rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home, Altoona.
