Ward Hoenstine

Ward C. ‘Chuck’ Hoenstine, 74, of Altoona, passed away Thursday at UPMC Altoona after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Jay E. and Marjorie L. (Wyland) Hoenstine.

He married Christina L. “Christy” (Wysocki) Gibney on June 14, 1980, at First Evangelistical Lutheran Church, Altoona.

Chuck retired in 1996 as a machinist at Conrail, Altoona with 29 years of service and was the past owner of Hoenstine’s Used Car Lot.

He was a member of the Masons, Logan Lodge No. 490, Jaffa Shrine — usher, greeter, former clown, originator and president for 10 years of Jaffa Antique and Classic Car Club, secretary of Jaffa Concessions, life member of Frankstown Sportsman Club, Officer of Blair County’s South Central Division of Sportsman’s Clubs, past waterways patrolman and past deputy Sheriff of Blair County. He enjoyed making wine, antique cars, flower gardening and his two dogs, Tippy and Lacey.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two stepdaughters, Melissa Gibney and her partner, Bob Sheffield, of Huntingdon and Katina (Mike) Lynn of Williamsburg; a stepson, Scott (Nikki) Gibney of Guyton, Ga.; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two special nephews, John and Cory Horon; and many other nieces and nephews. Ward is also survived by a bother - in - law and sister - in - law John and Sally Horon and an uncle Rodger Wyland.

Chuck was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert J. and Linda Hoenstine.

Family and Shriners will be received from 3 until the 5 p.m. funeral service Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Jones Funeral Home, Altoona, with Pastor John Townsend of First Grace Brethren Church.

A Masonic service will be held at 4:30 p.m.

Interment will take place at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.
